This is an absolute essential – regardless of whether you choose a classic tuxedo or an elegant day suit.

• A bow tie is a formal and classic choice – mandatory with a tuxedo (black tie) and highly desirable for evening wear. Perfect for elegant, black-and-white sets, glamour weddings, retro style, or classics with a touch of extravagance.

• A tie works for less formal occasions – e.g., rustic, boho style, or a classic day suit. It's best to opt for a silk model, plain or subtly textured – avoid flashy patterns and overly trendy experiments.

Note: When choosing a bow tie, remember – only a hand-tied model, never a pre-tied one on an elastic band. Style is in the details.

2. Pocket Square – Not Just Decoration, but a Symbol of Style

A white, linen pocket square folded into a classic rectangle (the so-called TV fold) is an elegant standard. It's a detail that never goes out of style and perfectly complements both a tuxedo and a suit.

You can also opt for a delicate color or subtle pattern if you want to add character to your styling. But the rule is simple: the pocket square should never be identical to the bow tie or tie – it's not a set, but a separate accent.

3. Footwear – Classic That Holds Its Form

For a wedding, we wear black, classic oxfords – smooth, with thin soles, polished to a high shine. This is a mandatory choice for a tuxedo and definitely the most elegant for formal suits.

Alternatively, for less formal wedding styles, you can opt for dark monk straps or loafers – but only if the entire outfit maintains a lightness and style bordering on smart casual.

Remember – shoes must be clean, well-maintained, and color-matched to the belt (if you're wearing one at all – more on that below).

4. Cufflinks – An Essential Element of Elegance

Every wedding suit should be paired with a French cuff shirt. This is one of those small accessories that make a huge difference.

Cufflinks can be classic (silver, gold), but also personalized – with initials, the wedding date, or a delicate symbolic motif. At Sartor Tailoring, we often advise clients to choose cufflinks that will be a lasting souvenir.

5. Belt? Not Necessarily. Suspenders are Better.

In a wedding suit, classic elegance precludes a belt – especially if you choose a tuxedo or a more formal cut. Suspenders are a much better choice: more comfortable, more elegant, and better keep trousers in the correct position.

If the suit is custom-made, we often prepare it to be worn without a belt – with side adjusters or with buttons for suspenders inside the waistband of the trousers.

6. Watch – Discreet Elegance, Not a Show of Power

For a wedding, we only wear a watch if its design matches the formal attire. Classic models with a thin case and a leather strap, maintaining a minimalist aesthetic, work best.

Sports watches, digital watches, or diver models should definitely stay at home – even if they are your favorite everyday accessory.

7. Boutonnière – A Subtle Nod to Tradition

A flower in the boutonnière is a wedding tradition that never goes out of style. It should complement the bride's bouquet – but not be identical.

The boutonnière does not go in the same place as the pocket square – it is pinned (or inserted) into a special buttonhole on the left lapel of the jacket. The flower should be small, elegant, and fresh – ideally prepared by a florist.
